One of my goals this year is to be a bit more conscious about sharing what I am up to before the fact instead of just recapping, so here is a bit of an overview of my next few months, in the hopes that we can connect in person.

First up, I have about 3 more weeks in Berlin.

This Friday I’ll be reading a fun and funny short story at Funeral Sandwiches, a monthly event for comedy, poetry, and storytelling at Das Gift. The space filled up quickly at last month’s event, so get there early if you want a good seat!

Then on Saturday, January 31, I’ll be giving a talk and reading at Lagos to close out my residency in the space. It will be a bittersweet farewell to all the work I’ve tackled in these two months.

After a week to decompress and enjoy the city post-residency, I’ll then head back to Mexico just in time to make it to the San Miguel Writers Conference from February 11-15. I am mostly just going to hang and vibe, I’m sure I’ll still be totally jetlagged and disoriented at that point, but I’m looking forward to some warm weather and margaritas after two months in the Berlin gray and cold.

And then in March I’ll be in Baltimore for AWP. I know the gossipy world of art fairs very well (I’m sorry not sorry to be missing Mexico City’s art week this year in favor of an extra chill weekend with friends in Berlin 🙃), but AWP will be a new industry experience for me. I am blocking the time off from day job responsibilities so that I can go all in on the experience. Let me know if you’ll be there — let’s get a coffee or a drink!

After that, I will probably be up in the NYC for the last week of March, give or take. That will be my last US visit until the fall, barring emergencies, so catch me while you can!

In other news, I’ve started sharing some fiction over on Substack. I am not very good at social media, but I figure it doesn’t hurt to at least have a little bit of activity over there. Maybe it will be a good venue for whenever I finally write that essay about how I am so bad at social media that I hired a doppelganger to pose as me at art events and post about it on Instagram and Twitter….

Hope you are doing well, all things considered, in these wild and difficult times.

Martha
